How is this project responsible?
Our product, Malare-Away, only targets the parasite Plasmodium and does not harm the Anopheles Mosquito. By killing the malaria parasite without causing immediate death to the mosquito, it prevents the mosquito from developing resistance to the fungal insecticide, Metarhizium Anisopliae. The fungus is entirely safe for humans, and causes no damage to the environment. Our spray bottle will also be made of plastic, and will be 100% recyclable saving the environment and animals alike.
Bio-Assistance:
The definition of bio-assistance is using or domesticating organisms in a certain process. An example of this would be taking a plant and using it to purify the air in a room or building.
Our project is a prime example of Bio-assistance because we are using the naturally grown fungus Metarhizium Anisopliae (that is later genetically modified) in our Malare-Away spray to combat Malaria.
